In this best 5 days Morocco Desert tour from Marrakech, you’ll see several fabulous places and spend a magical night in the Sahara Desert ( you can choose between a standard camp and a luxury camp).
We will pick you up at the hotel or riad and travel towards the High Atlas, the highest mountain range in North Africa. In the winter and early spring, you can enjoy snow at higher elevations. We will then proceed to Ait Ben Haddou, a 1987 Unesco World Heritage Site where Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator, and The Mummy were filmed, among others. We will arrive in Ouarzazate, where most of Morocco’s film facilities are located. In Ouarzazate, you will have dinner and stay the night.
Right after breakfast, we will spend the morning touring the studios where such films as The Wars, The Mummy, and Gladiator were produced. The Kasbah of Taourirt, a World Heritage Site with towers and ramparts, will be our next stop. The Islamic and Jewish religions are integrated. We will proceed along the Thousand Kasbah Road through the magnificent palm Skoura, surrounded by hundreds of Kasbah along the way. Will enter the Dades Valley and see the countless kasbah that line the route. We will proceed along the river road into the valley. We will pause to appreciate it. You will have dinner and stay the night at this town.
Will cover travel to the Desert. However, there are numerous natural tourist attractions along the route that are accessible on foot. The Todra Gorges are the most spectacular. If you have time for a brief hike in the palm grove of Todra and see the tourists climbing the Gorges, Dades Valley is approximately 64 kilometers away. In the Gorges, you will also have the opportunity to see nomads coming down to drink or carrying water jugs for themselves or their animals. Following the Gorges, you will travel via Tinjdad, where you will have lunch, to Erfoud, which is known for its fossils. Here, you can visit one of the fossil museums to get an understanding of the local industry. Proceed to the gradle of the Alwite dynasty. It is approximately 35 kilometers from here to Merzouga, where you will spend the night in a hotel near the sand.
In the morning, you will begin to explore the area surrounding the Desert. You will begin in Khamlia or nearby to enjoy and dance with the black-skinned Sudanese, and then travel to the other side of the Sahara to see the Nomads who live there. You can spend time with them and ask them numerous questions to get an in-depth knowledge of their life and lifestyle. The Nomads here are extremely hospitable and friendly. Then, stay in the Desert until you have completed the entire tour of the Erg Chebbi sand dunes. Your driver/guide will transport you to a local restaurant for lunch to enjoy ‘the Berber pizza’. You will return to your hotel or Riad for a break around 3 p.m. in order to prepare for the camel excursion to the golden sand dunes. Overnight in a Berber tent.
The camel journey back to the hotel or Riad, where the 4×4 is located, will conclude our Sahara Desert experience. After breakfast, travel to Errachidia via Erfoud and the Ziz Valley. We proceed to Midelt for lunch. After lunch, you will drive to Fes via the Cedar forest at Azrou and the mountain of the middle Atlas before stopping in Ifrane, also known as the Switzerland of Morocco. The tour will then conclude in Fes, the oldest city in Morocco, where you will spend the night at your Riad.
